KESS Produced Mud System for Workover Rig Drilling

A workover rig is a specialized piece of equipment used in the oil and gas industry to perform maintenance, repairs, and remedial work on existing oil and gas wells. Unlike drilling rigs which are used to drill new wells, workover rigs focus on enhancing, maintaining, and troubleshooting wells that are already in production.


Recently, we got feedback from New Zealand Customer about KESS produced mud system. The mud system is working for 550hp workover rig and provide high efficiency in mud cleaning and recycling. The basic system configurations including:

- 1 set 4-panel solids control shale shakers with 500gpm flow rate

- 3 sets heavy duty mud agitator with bevel gear gearbox

- 3sets heavy duty centrifugal pumps specialized for drilling mud transfer

- 1set drilling mud tank with 3 layers Jotun brand painting, long-lasting for seaside operations

Except for compact workover rig mud system, KESS also make customized mud system for oil drilling rig, Horizontal directional drilling rig, Coalbed methane drilling rig, piling machine and Tunnelling Machine. The main target is to help clean and recycle the drilling mud, reduce the investment to make new drilling mud and reduce the impact on environment as well. Various users have different requirement in the configuration and size of the mud tank system; we can provide customized solutions according to the details requirements.


As the first stage solids control equipment, oil drilling shale shaker play key role in the performance. It can help to remove the large cuttings and impurities by the vibration of shaker screen. Better designed shale shaker can significantly prolong the performance and lifetime of shaker screen. The second stage and third stage solids control equipment is desander cones and desilter cones, which can be mounted on one shale shaker to combine working as Mud Cleaner. The separation performance of cyclones depends on many factors- the centrifugal pump flow rate, the pump feeding pressure. When the flow rate is lower, the separation performance could be worse. When the feeding pressure is much higher or much lower, the separation performance could be worse. That is, it is very important to control the feeding rate and feeding pressure. However, it is not easy to control. That is why, the decanter centrifuge working after the mud cleaner bears more importance to adjust the mud weight and mud viscosity. Compared with traditional mud cleaner application, we now is promoting to use 26in big bowl decanter centrifuge to replace the mud cleaner.  The big bowl decanter centrifuge can play much better and stable performance than mud cleaners.
