Centrifuge for drilling mud treatment, because the separation target is not very clear and not specified, the target is to cut mud weight or recover barite, and it is easy design compared with other industry centrifuges. 14in or 18in bowl centrifuge is popular for mud treatment, Swaco 518HV, Derrick 1000, Brandt 3400, they are all 14in centrifuges.

But mud has bigger density and will wear the screw impeller inside centrifuge, so the centrifuge design need to pay attention to 3 points

1- need a larger torque (with bigger motor power)

2- the impeller needs to be designed wear-resistance.

3- the centrifuge should be shorter, bowl length/diameter ratio should be about 2.5~3, that is okay.

Recently, we are almost finish the production of blue-sky centrifuges, it is 1set 14in centrifuges will be delivered to land rig site. The 14in centrifuge with a bowl length/diameter ratio to be 3, replacement to Swaco 518HV or Derrick 1000 centrifuges. The centrifuge spindle impeller was protected by carbide alloy tiles for better anti-wearing performance, but there is also risk the tiles will be damaged when some big particles enter the centrifuge in high-speed operation and damage the balance status. In order to solve the problem, we can add one speed accelerator in the position of feeding port, that is, the materials rotation speed firstly accelerated, and then enter the chamber of separation. In this case, the wearing to impeller can be minimized because the impeller rotation speed and the materials rotation speed are almost same. To avoid the alloy tiles problem, we can use Duplex SS2205 stainless steel and without alloy tiles protection and to eliminate the risk of damaged tiles to damage the balance.
